EXPLORE THE GAMBIA WITH "BLACKA" TOURS
My name is Ebrima Sonko, but my friends call me" Blacka"! I'm from a village called Sifoe, but now I live in Brufut because of my job. In my spare time I spend time on the beach, doing sports, fishing and I love music very, very much !
I have been a tour guide for 8 years. My references will show to you that I understand my job and that I am a reliable person. The main goal of my trips is to make people enthusiastic about my country so that they can't wait to come back and tell their family and friends about the wonderful experiences in the Gambia, THE SMILING COAST OF AFRICA…
The Gambia comprises a varied landscape featuring stunning scenery, glorious low-key beaches, beautiful rivers and wealth of wildlife, amongst them monkeys, crocodiles and a small population of hippos. However, it's the people with their great smiles and good humour, that make the Gambia the most approachable of all West African countries. Here, people still have time for each other and are genuinely interested in others.
My goal is to make my guests love my country - an easy one ! Tell me your wishes and I will make them come true. Always at your service.

MAKASUTU CULTURE FOREST
NATURE TRAIL AND CULTURE
The forest is in the Kombo Central District on The West Coast of The Gambia
To get the most out of this trip, an early start is required if you are travelling from Kololi or Bijilo, as it will take about one hour to drive to the park.
The nature park has a land area of 1,000 acres and encompasses the Mandina Bolong, a tributary of the Gambia River. The protected wilderness has palm and hardwood forest, mangrove creeks, savanna and salt-flat ecosystems. Within the area are luxury eco-lodges called the Mandina Lodges, which were created by two Englishmen from London.
On arriving at the park, your guide will take you to the Baobab Bar and Restaurant, where you will be greeted and given a brief history of the place. From here, you can arrange cruises along the mangrove creeks or guided foot treks along the nature trail.
While on the bush walk, you are likely to pass by the hut of a traditional Gambian medicine man, who produces and sells herbal potions and traditional medicines and remedies from trees and bushes growing in the area, as well as charms. The holy man, or marabout, also reads palms and predicts your future. Further along the trail, you will have the opportunity to watch how a palm wine tapper hauls himself up a tree using a leather belt (traditionally a palm frond sling) which straps him loosely to the tree to collect the sweet flower sap.
Among the mammal species you might encounter in the various habitats are monkeys such as a troop of Guinea Baboons, Western Red Colobus Monkeys, and Vervet Monkeys. Other animals include the elusive mongoose, bats, squirrels and Dwarf Deer. There are also reptiles such as monitor lizards and crocodiles along the riverbanks and in the water. Among the invertebrates are fiddler crabs, and insects such as termites and ants.
You might spot mangrove sunbirds feeding on nectar and African darters swimming with only their head and neck above water while hunting for fish, or lily trotters walking on the floating vegetation of the mangrove swamp. Occasionally, you will see local village fishermen at work or women collecting oysters from underwater roots.
There is an alfresco buffet of Gambian food such as rice with peanut stew (Domoda) and Jollof rice with fish and vegetables, served back at the Baobab Restaurant.
After lunch comes the entertainment : a group of Makasutu-based Jola dancers and drummers from the nearby Kembujeh Village. You are often encouraged to join in the dance. This, however, is not necessarily the end of the entertainment. If you stay until the early evening, you can experience the 'Night Extravaganza' : fires are lit, the barbecue gets going, and the main entertainment gets underway, often featuring djembe drumming, cultural dancing, acrobats, fire breathers, jugglers, and stilted men (Mamapara). At the end of it all, you are escorted out, dancing along a lantern-lit procession between the trees before departing for your hotel.
LAMIN LODGE
Lamin Lodge is a unique eco-tourism destination located on the edge of the creeks of the River Gambia. The lodge is built on stilts in the middle of the mangrove swamps and offers visitors stunning views of the surrounding nature. Lamin Lodge is particularly popular among birdwatchers, as it provides an ideal vantage point for spotting the many bird species that inhabit the mangroves.
In addition to birdwatching, visitors can rent small boats from Lamin Lodge to explore the creeks and mangrove swamps. The lodge also serves as a starting point for various tours and excursions in the area, such as fishing trips, nature walks, and cultural visits to nearby villages.
Overall, Lamin Lodge is a peaceful and scenic destination that offers a unique glimpse into the natural beauty and rich culture of The Gambia.
The day will begin with you being picked up from your hotel / lodgings around 7.00am.
